[ENG] Event Description

Hacking is creative problem solving. (It does not have to involve technology.)

A hackathon is an event that brings together people and creates a collaborative environment for solving a certain problem. While the majority of hackathons revolve around computer programming and IT, many other industries follow suit. Today, it's possible to find HR hackathons, economics hackathons, music hackathons, and the like.

It’s not only to find solutions but also to create a safe space where people can test not only tech, program languages but also possibilities and methodologies.

Hackathons as a driver for innovation

The safe space makes it possible to stimulate an innovative mindset that can start with seemingly being non-business-related ideas but in the end provide an unexpected step forward.

You give oxygen to crazy ideas that might become the next great move forward. That’s how the Facebook « like » button came to be. You break open the landscape of the expected and expand the range of what is possible, the unthinkable, the amazing.

The social aspect

The set-up of a hackathon gives you an ideal context to quickly develop ideas and solutions to solve local or larger social issues.

But more importantly, you’ll be showing others where solution-based thinking can take them. Others will benefit from the experience and take it further to make their own mark!

By Marc Stevens (Euroclear)

Guidelines for Students

  1. The event is organised / sponsored by Euroclear in cooperation with the AIP UJ.
  2. There are two steps in this journey – Ideation phase and the 2-day Hackathon event. In the weeks running up to the hackathon, during "ideation" phase, the teams will work on their problem/opportunity linked to one of proposed challenges, validate it with key customers/stakeholder, define and scope the solution and finally pitch the idea to the jury. You will have a dedicated coach to help you on the process. You will also identify what needs to be done in the 2 days hackathon in order to have a working demo ready to present to the jury in the final stage of the competition.
  3. Teams are mandatory for the hackathon. Included in this number is a Scrum Master to facilitate and remove impediments you face along the way and a Product Owner who will represent the team in the diverse forums and presentations. As part of the inclusive approach, you do not need to have experience with IT. Everyone can participate either in ideation or 2-day hackathon or both - all throughout the journey.
  4. The Intellectual Property created during this hackathon will remain the property of Euroclear.
  5. You can register to take part in the event in the time period starting from Feb 27th – Mar 9th 2023. Please mind that the order of applying matters – max. 20 students can enrol to take part in the event.
  6. Enrolling to the event will require you to participate in meetings with your fellow Team members.
  7. Meeting agenda:
  • Key Ideation Session – onsite - venue: Puszkarska 7L Street, Building G, Krakow – one business day (08:00 – 16:00) – to be confirmed, most probably on 20th or 21st Mar 2023
  • Between 14/15th March and 23/24th March – optional 2 hour long meetings in the virtual mode (to refine the Pitch details, amount of time to be spent – defined by each team)
  • Ideation session engagement - in total 10 hours (including both a) and b))
  • Finals (May 24th – May 25th) – 8h per day, stationary mode. Please mind, only the Teams selected in the voting stage will be invited to participate in the actual Hacking phase to happen on these days

8. In the event registration form you might outline your preferences related to the challenges you would like to work on:

  • How might we accelerate the implementation of the Corporate Strategy to better address client needs?
  • How might we accelerate and improve the onboarding experience for those starting a new role at Euroclear?
  • How might we measure visualize and understand the environmental impact of our IT solutions, to support the decision-making processes?
  • How might we help individuals, the business and communities deal with direct or indirect impacts of the global climate emergency?

9. During the Ideation Weeks, teams with support of Design Thinking facilitators will do research and come up with a problem statement within a chosen challenge.  Then they will brainstorm together to create an idea. The key session will take place possibly in the office, where teams will get to know each other better, build the concept of their solution together and prepare arguments for their pitch. During ideation weeks, teams receive support from business & IT experts, and coaching sessions on creative thinking and pitching. Before the deadline - end of business day 24 March, teams will submit a 2-minute-long video pitch, explaining their idea. The pitches which will get the most votes from Euroclear staff, will go to the Final, where teams will prepare demos of their solutions.
